The Power of a Smile

Why do we smile when we get our picture taken? I asked one of my friends today. When you think about it long and hard, there must be some reason that explains that contentment. Is it because we enjoy having our picture taken? Not all of us. I see some of those forced smiles, fake smiles, serious faces - pictures aren't always that enjoyable. So why is it? Why do we feel the need the show that grind when we are standing in front of a camera? I even searched the question online, and I am far from being the first to ask it! My favorite answer..which is also my friend's - Smiling makes us more attractive. And don't we all want to look great in an image that can last forever?

She is right, smiling does make us more attractive. I feel that as human beings we are always drawn to those with smiles and some of the most attractive people are the ones with great smiles. If you go back to my post about that one player, or if you read the post about Pierre-Benoit, both men, totally different men, admit that a woman's smile is very attractive. As a woman, looking at a man, there really is nothing more attractive to me than a man with a brilliant smile. That smile just gets more and more attractive if that person is looking at you. It's as if that little piece of facial movement moves mountains. A person that smiles more tends to be so much more approachable, someone you want to know, someone you can feel closer to, and all this just in a little smile.

The power of the smile is it's natural beauty, it comes from within, it makes you and others feel good and the efforts to do so are quite simple.  It can lighten up someone's day, it can make you fall in love, it can get you out of a speeding ticket! The possibilities and opportunities available to you when you show those pearly whites are endless.

To be told: You have a beautiful smile, is almost like being told that you are the most amazing person to ever touch this Earth.. well anyways, that's how I feel.  I have realized that the power of a smile is much greater than we might think. I do believe it makes us look more attractive, it makes us feel better, it just sets a tone.

As I researched the subject I fell on some excellent Smile quotes - that I do believe are very true. I'm going to share some of them with you...

Today, give a stranger one of your smiles.  It might be the only sunshine he sees all day. - Jackson Brown

A smile is a curve that sets everything straight.  ~Phyllis Diller (I very much like this one...)

A smile is an inexpensive way to change your looks.  ~Charles Gordy

Life is like a mirror, we get the best results when we smile at it.  ~Author Unknown

And my favorite - though quite cheesy - but hey, I'm a woman who loves the cheese!!

Always remember to be happy because you never know who's falling in love with your smile.  ~Author Unknown

As my last words of wisdom on this simple but meaningful post, yes quite obvious we should all smile more.. but then again, smile just for the fun of it. Smile while walking down the street (you can blame me for looking crazy), smile while driving thinking of great times you had with friends or family.  Smile, enjoy and never underestimate it's power - because you know what they say - Beauty is power; a smile is its sword.
